COLLABORATION · DOCUMENTATION

Collaboration User Manual

Collaboration allows the mobile app to capture network requests and send the captured traffic to the Packet Capture Pro desktop app in real time. On the larger desktop interface, you can view the request list, request headers, request body, response headers, and response body, and use filtering, search, and other desktop tools to process the captured data.

Traffic captured through Collaboration can only be viewed on the desktop app. The mobile app does not save data captured through Collaboration.

01Before You Begin

Before you begin, make sure that:

  1. Packet Capture Pro desktop version 3.5.0 or later is installed and running on your computer.
  2. Packet Capture Pro mobile version 5.3.0 or later is installed on your phone.
  3. The desktop and mobile devices are connected to the same local network.
  4. Collaboration is enabled on both the desktop and mobile apps.
  5. To view fully decrypted HTTPS and WSS traffic, install and trust the capture certificate provided by the current computer on your mobile device.

The certificate is used to decrypt HTTPS and WSS traffic captured through Collaboration.

02Enable Collaboration

1. Enable Collaboration on the Desktop App

  1. Open Packet Capture Pro on your computer.
  2. Open “Collaboration”.
  3. Turn on the Collaboration switch.
  4. When the page indicates that Collaboration is enabled, keep the desktop app running and wait for the mobile device to connect.

2. Connect the Mobile Device to the Computer

  1. Open Packet Capture Pro on your mobile device.
  2. Open the sidebar and select Collaboration.
  3. Connect to the computer by selecting the target computer from the Nearby Computers list, scanning the QR code on the desktop “Collaboration” page, or selecting “Add Computer” and entering the computer information shown on the desktop “Collaboration” page.
  1. Select Add to pair and connect the devices.
  2. When the mobile device appears under Paired Devices on the desktop app, pairing is complete. A green indicator means the device is connected, while a red indicator means it is disconnected.

If the computer does not appear under “Nearby Computers”, make sure Collaboration is enabled on both devices and that they are connected to the same local network. (Android only)

03Install the Certificate

After the computer certificate is installed and trusted, the desktop app can decrypt HTTPS and WSS traffic generated by the mobile device. Select the appropriate installation method for your operating system and device environment.

Before Installation

  1. Update Packet Capture Pro desktop to version 3.5.0 or later.
  2. Make sure the computer and mobile device are connected to the same local network.
  3. Enable Collaboration on the desktop app and complete device pairing.
  4. Open “Certificate Manager” on the desktop app and select the corresponding operating system.

iOS

1. Download the Certificate

On the mobile “Certificate Manager” page, select “Scan” and scan the QR code displayed under “Certificate Manager > iOS” on the desktop app. After the QR code is scanned successfully, follow the system instructions to download the certificate profile.

2. Install the Certificate

Open “Settings” on the iPhone and select “Profile Downloaded”. If this option is not displayed, go to “Settings > General > VPN & Device Management”.

Select the corresponding certificate profile, then select “Install”.

3. Trust the Certificate

Go to “Settings > General > About > Certificate Trust Settings”. Under “Enable Full Trust for Root Certificates”, locate the corresponding certificate and enable trust. A manually installed certificate must be fully trusted before it can be used to decrypt HTTPS traffic.

4. Start Capturing

Return to Packet Capture Pro and make sure Collaboration is enabled and the device is paired. Start capturing, then open and use the target app. The captured traffic will appear in the desktop app.

Android: Virtual Machine

This method is intended for capturing traffic from apps running inside an Android virtual machine.

1. Download the Certificate

On the mobile app, open “Certificate Manager > Virtual Machine”, select “Scan”, and scan the certificate QR code displayed under “Certificate Manager > Android > Virtual Machine” on the desktop app.

The certificate will be downloaded to: Download/PacketCapturePro

2. Import the Certificate into the Virtual Machine

Import the downloaded certificate into the virtual machine. Use the virtual machine’s file manager to install it in the etc → security → cacerts directory as a system certificate.

The procedure may vary depending on the virtual machine. For detailed instructions, see the Virtual Machine Capture Guide.

3. Start Capturing

Enable Collaboration and complete device pairing, then start capturing. Open and use the target app inside the virtual machine. The desktop app will display the mobile traffic in real time and automatically decrypt HTTPS and WSS traffic.

Android: Magisk

This method is intended for Android devices with Magisk or KernelSU installed. It installs the certificate in the system certificate directory.

1. Download the Magisk Module

On the “Certificate Manager > Magisk” page, download: pcp-collab-magisk.zip

If an older module ZIP file is stored on the device, delete it before downloading the latest version.

2. Install the Magisk Module

Open the module manager in Magisk or KernelSU, select “Install from Storage”, and choose the downloaded ZIP file.

Restart the device when prompted.

The module includes the current computer certificate 2b78195f.0. If another certificate management module is installed on the device, uninstall or disable it before installation to avoid conflicts.

3. Check the Module Status

After restarting the device, make sure the following module is enabled: Packet Capture Pro Collab CA

If the module is disabled, enable it manually and restart the device again.

4. Start Capturing

Enable Collaboration and complete device pairing. Start capturing on the mobile app, then open and use the target app. The desktop app will display the mobile traffic in real time and automatically decrypt HTTPS and WSS traffic.

04Start Collaboration Capture

  1. Make sure the mobile device is shown as connected on the desktop app.
  2. Select Start Capture on the mobile app.
  3. If the system requests VPN or network capture permission, allow it.
  4. Open and use the app or webpage you want to inspect on the mobile device.
  5. Captured network requests will be sent to the desktop app and displayed in the capture list.

During capture, the mobile app displays the message “View captured data on the desktop app.” Keep both devices connected. Do not close the desktop app or disconnect either device from the network.

05View Captured Traffic on the Desktop App

After receiving traffic from the mobile device, you can use the desktop app to:

  • View the request list and request timestamps.
  • Filter requests by protocol, content type, or status.
  • Search for URLs.
  • View request parameters, request headers, request bodies, and Cookies.
  • View response headers, response bodies, and Set-Cookie values.
  • Copy, export, rewrite, replay, or run scripts on traffic captured through Collaboration.

The availability of rewrite, replay, and script features depends on the options currently available in the desktop app.

06Stop Capturing

Stop Capture from the Desktop App

Select “Pause” on the desktop app. Capture will also stop on the mobile device. Previously received traffic will remain available on the desktop app.

Stop Capture from the Mobile App

When packet capture stops on the mobile device, the desktop app stops receiving data from that device but can continue capturing local traffic. Data already received remains on the current page.
